SAS®9 Deployment Plans Explained

What is a Deployment Plan?

A deployment plan is a file that serves as a guide for SAS® Deployment Wizard, outlining the specific SAS software to be installed and configured on each machine within a SAS environment.

The deployment plan is stored in a plan.xml file. The deployment plan is an XML-based description of the topology for your SAS system. Similar to an architect's blueprint, the deployment plan describes the intended final SAS software environment.

Standard versus Custom Deployment Plans

Standard deployment plans are used when deploying common SAS software bundles, such as SAS® Office Analytics or SAS® Visual Analytics. By default, these standard deployment plans are stored in the SAS Software Depot and can be chosen during the deployment process using SAS Deployment Wizard.

Sites licensing nonstandard software bundles receive custom deployment plans, which are specifically designed to fit the unique software bundle of each site. These custom deployment plans are developed by technical architects on the SAS Account Team for each site.

For assistance with determining which deployment plan is required for your deployment, contact SAS Technical Support.

To request a custom deployment plan, contact your SAS Account Manager.

Using a Standard Deployment Plan

During the process of performing a planned deployment of SAS software, SAS Deployment Wizard prompts the installer to choose a deployment plan. This prompt includes the option to select a standard deployment plan, featuring a drop-down menu that lists all the available standard deployment plans:
