If you receive any of the following error messages while trying to install SAS 9.4 or extract SAS Software Depot on your Windows workstation, it could be due to the use of the Microsoft backup to OneDrive feature. This feature is turned on if you have opted into backing up your Users folder to OneDrive when you are signed in. If you do not choose Only backup files to this PC, all or some of your Users directories are set to OneDrive locations. This option to back up to OneDrive can break some of the SAS functionality that is used to determine the location of your Documents folder. It could also potentially cause an issue because SAS might see that files are locked and cannot proceed because OneDrive is in the process of backing up those files. It is important to install SAS and download SAS Software Depot only to your local machine.
The examples discussed here usually occur when you are installing from a zipped depot that is provided to you. Sometimes, you might be able to get to the point of running SAS® Deployment Wizard, or even past the point of installing SAS, but you then encounter issues during that deployment process or after SAS is installed.
SAS Technical Support recommends that you not run setup.exe to launch SAS Deployment Wizard from a ZIP file. If your SAS Software Depot is zipped or compressed, extract it first before trying to run setup.exe.
If your ZIP file is located on Microsoft OneDrive, and you try to extract it to the same location, the following pop-up error might occur:
The error reads, "An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem. Error 0x80010135: Path too long."
The following generic error can be caused by various actions. It can sometimes be caused by launching setup.exe from a SAS Software Depot that is located on Microsoft OneDrive.
The error reads, "The SAS Deployment Wizard is not able to proceed with the installation. Contact the person who gave you the software and ask for new DVDs. If you downloaded your software from SAS, download your software order again. If this does not resolve the problem, contact SAS Technical Support for assistance."
If you are able to get to the point where you are able to run setup.exe and begin installing your software, you can eventually encounter a message that is similar to the following error. This error might occur when SAS Deployment Wizard reaches the system checks prompt:
Below are other errors that can occur as a result of SAS being installed from or on Microsoft OneDrive. These errors might be experienced when you invoke SAS 9.4, and you would see them at the top of your SAS log:
Example One:
You need to either download your SAS order to your C:\ drive directly, or you need to move the zipped or compressed SAS Software Depot directly to your C:\ drive before you extract the files. Complete these steps in File Explorer to find your C:\ drive:
