Managing multiple installations of SAS® Add-In for Microsoft Office

It is possible to have multiple releases of SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office installed on your computer at the same time. Here are some examples:

However, only one release of SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office can be in use at a time.

In addition, the different releases of SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office can be used with only the versions of SAS software that support it, as shown in the following table.

Switching between Different Releases of SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office

Note: There is a caveat to using the Switcher Utility in a shared environment. For example, be careful when using the utility in a Terminal Server environment or a Citrix XenApp environment that presents Microsoft Office. Using the Switcher Utility in this environment affects all other Microsoft Office users.

To switch between SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office releases 2.1, 4.x, 5.1, 6.x, 7.x, and 8.x, use the Switcher Utility executable.

Note: Administrator privileges are required for using the Switcher Utility.

The default location for the SwitcherUtility.exe file varies depending on the release. For example, this is the location for the 4.3 SwitcherUtility.exe:

C:\Program Files\SAS\Add-InForMicrosoftOffice\4.3

Always use the Switcher Utility of the latest (most current) release of SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office that is installed. For example, if you have both SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office 4.3 and 5.1 installed, then you would use the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office 5.1 Switcher Utility because it is the latest release in the example. If you upgrade to a later release of SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office and keep earlier releases installed, then be sure to use the Switcher Utility for the latest release.

Each SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office release 4.x and later contains information in the online Help. To access the relevant online Help information, use the following steps. Note that this example is for SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office 4.3.
