Beginning with SAS 9.4M9, which has an anticipated release in early 2025, the SAS 9.4M9 platform will not be available on Solaris for SPARC or Solaris for x86 operating environments.
Q: Is Solaris supported on SAS 9.4?
Solaris and Solaris for x86 are supported operating systems for SAS® 9.4M0 (TS1M0) through SAS® 9.4M8 (TS1M8). They are not supported on SAS 9.4M9. For more information, see Supported Operating Systems.
Q: Do I have to change operating systems?
Not immediately. Solaris will continue to be supported on SAS 9.4M8 and earlier until the platform’s maintenance release moves to Limited Support. Refer to the Base SAS® product at Support Levels by Product.
Q: How do I receive a SAS license on a different operating system?
Contact SAS Licensing. For more information, see the following:
Q: Will I incur a fee if all I do is change operating systems?
No.
Q: How do I move or copy my SAS content from a Solaris deployment to another operating system?
The answer depends on factors such as the type of content and whether you are switching from Solaris to another UNIX operating system (such as Linux or AIX) or a non UNIX operating system such as Windows. See the SAS® 9.4 Administration: Choosing an Approach for Upgrading to SAS 9.4 documentation for additional information.
Note: Because the SAS® Migration Utility (SMU) for SAS 9.4M9 requires Java 21, which is not supported on Solaris, migration using the SAS Migration Utility requires using a SAS 9.4M8 or earlier SAS Migration Utility release to package and migrate your current content to a non Solaris, UNIX deployment matching your current maintenance release. That is, if you are running SAS 9.4M8, you would use the SAS 9.4M8 SAS Migration Utility in your depot to migrate to SAS 9.4M8 on another operating system. At this point, you can do either of the following:
