Identify the Microsoft ACE components installed

Follow this process to identify the Microsoft ACE components installed on your system.

64-bit ACE Components

To access the 64-bit ODBC Administrator to check for the presence of 64-bit ACE components, complete these steps:

Note: Before you begin, make sure that the ODBC Administrator is currently closed.

  1. Navigate to Start, and enter C:\Windows\System32\odbcad32.exe into the Search programs and files field.
  2. When the ODBC Administrator opens, click the Drivers tab and look for Microsoft Excel Driver or Microsoft Access Driver.

If these drivers are present, this confirms the existence of 64-bit ACE components.
  3. Check the version number. Typical driver versions range from 14.0 to 16.0. If neither driver is listed, check the 32-bit ODBC Administrator.

Note: It is a good idea to check the 32-bit ODBC Administrator even if 64-bit ACE components exist. This step helps avoid any possible driver conflicts.

32-bit ACE Components

To access the 32-bit ODBC Administrator to check for the presence of 64-bit ACE components, complete these steps:

Note: Make sure that the ODBC Administrator is currently closed before you begin.

  1. Navigate to Start and enter C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe into the Search programs and files field.
  2. Click the Drivers tab of the ODBC Administrator and look for Microsoft Excel Driver or Microsoft Access Driver as highlighted in the 64-bit ODBC Administrator image above. Check carefully because there might be drivers with similar names, but you are concerned only with the ones shown in the example. Below is a 32-bit ODBC Administrator that lacks the specific driver that you are looking for:

Drivers

If you found the Microsoft Excel Driver or Microsoft Access Driver in the ODBC Administrator launched from C:\Windows\System32\odbcad32.exe, they are 64-bit components. If you found them in the ODBC Administrator launched from C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe, they are 32-bit components.
